  • Out of the box comfort

Cons
  • Not the most breathable shoe
  • £185 is expensive for a spikeless shoe

The G/Fore MG4+ O2 is the spikeless version of the shoe that they brought out earlier this year, and it might just be our favourite spikeless shoe of 2025.

G/Fore are an LA-based golf and lifestyle brand who aren’t afraid to turn heads when it comes to the design of their gear. They’re trying to appeal to the new generation of golfers with bright colours, punchy slogans and on/off-course versatility.

If you’re in the market for a new pair of shoes, it’s definitely worth you reading on…

Who Are They Aimed At?

G/Fore products are not always suited to the more ‘traditional’ golfer due to their bold styling. Having said that, the MG4+ O2 is a really classy looking shoe that could have a wide appeal.

It’s a spikeless model, but it’s still sturdy and pretty easy to keep clean, which makes it versatile for most months of the year.

With an RRP of £185 it’s not cheap though, so it’s probably best suited to golfers who play regularly.

The Tech

As you’d probably expect, the shoes feature much of the same technologies as the standard MG4+ O2 G/Lock. The big difference is that they don’t include softspikes, providing a lighter and more versatile option.

A lightweight and water repellent upper offers protection and durability. There’s also an anatomically designed midsole, with ‘auxetic sidewall’. This design keeps your feet comfortable even after hours of use on tricky terrains

An external heel counter supports it, adding extra stability.

Inside the shoe, a performance mesh lining is said to offer breathability and odour control, whilst the shoes also feature G/Fore’s 3D moulded insoles.

There’s strategically positioned foam, as well as a padded tongue, said to give golfers instant comfort.

On the bottom of the shoe, a TPU sole has heel-to-toe sawtooth traction points. These have strategically placed gaps too, to generate a bit more flexibility.

There’s a choice of six different colourways available for men, and three for women.

Looks And Feel

I received the shoes in an off-white Pumice colourway, which I really liked. It would’ve been my pick of the different options, ahead of those with camo or brighter accent colours.

G/Fore are known for some pretty loud and bold designs, but overall the shoe was actually pretty classy. There are a couple of extra touches like the script on the tongue, and the cord on the heel, but apart from that it’s a pretty uncluttered design.

It’s a pretty common theme within golf shoe design these days, but the MG4+ look like they could easily be a casual trainer for everyday use.

If you’re somebody who doesn’t want to have to change shoes in the car park after their round before heading to the clubhouse, these are a great option. You can also use them on the driving range and in all but the worst weather conditions.

The shaping and style reminded me a little bit of a Travis Mathew Ringer or Cuater shoe. I do think the G/Fore model is much better looking though.

On the downside, for a spikeless shoe it wasn’t the most lightweight. If you want something that feels like a trainer and can be worn on holiday or in the warmest weather, you can probably find something that is lighter and more breathable elsewhere.

Performance

Whilst looks is obviously very important when it comes to shoes, they also need to perform too. Luckily the MG4+ O2 can do both.

I loved the insole as it provided both comfort, and performance too. When you first slip your feet in, you can really feel the pattern of the insole against your foot. It’s almost like wearing a pair of Crocs, and it just makes walking feel so easy.

Straight out of the box, these shoes have a perfect balance of comfort and stability – it feels solid yet cushioned around your foot.

They provided excellent levels of traction despite being a spikeless shoe. I was testing on an early autumn day where the ground was relatively damp, but I still felt secure and able to swing freely throughout.

The sawtooth sole design did tend to pick up quite a bit of debris, although it didn’t affect the traction I was getting.

On the whole the shoes were easy to wipe clean. This does make them a bit more versatile for year-round use.

I liked the laces, which were thick and felt really durable too. They’re more like laces from walking boots than a standard trainer.

G/Fore also include a different colour option for the laces too depending on which model you select, which is a nice touch. They weren’t the longest laces, but that did help to keep them tucked out of the way which is good if you want to keep them clean and dry.

My only gripe with this as a spikeless shoe, is that it could’ve been a bit more lightweight and breathable. I tested these shoes on a day when it was around 16 degrees and the shoes did feel quite warm.

That’s not to say that they aren’t usable in the summer, but they aren’t quite as breathable as a mesh or fabric-style shoe.

G/Fore MG4+ O2 Golf Shoe Verdict

As I said at the start of this review, this is one of the best spikeless shoe that I’ve tested this year, and one of the best that I’ve tried full stop.

They reminded me a little of an Ecco shoe, due to the combination of stability and comfort.

As a spikeless shoe you could find something a bit lighter, but they’re really versatile for lots of different weather conditions. They look great, feel comfortable right out of the box, and impressed me with their traction.

An RRP of £185 is not cheap, but if you want a shoe that can nearly do it all, it’s a great option.

Would I Use Them?

Absolutely. I’m looking forward to wearing them again on my next round!
