G/Fore is an eye catching new brand (est. 2011) that definitely like to do things in their own unique and bold way. The brand is becoming increasingly popular every year as they plan to disrupt the game with their youthful energy and humour. The O2 G/Lock is the latest addition to G/Fore’s MG4+ lineup, an ultra-athletic shoes offering comfort, style and stability.

Recent PGA Tour winner Thomas Detry is clearly a big fan of the new shoes, calling them “great.” He praised their performance, stability, comfort, and fit overall. So I was very intrigued to see how they performed in action.

Who Are They Aimed At?
The O2 G/Locks are specifically designed with comfort in mind acting as a hybrid shoe. Whilst offering exceptional comfort, they also feature spikes underneath with the brand’s own stability system. These help with balance whilst walking and hitting shots.

If you’re looking for something a bit different for the upcoming season then I’d definitely consider looking at G/Fore’s lineup this year.
As G/Fore suggest, they are consistently striving to make a powerful and colourful impact on golf as a whole. When choosing something on their website, you will struggle to find anything that won’t stand out!
The Tech
This year’s edition is similar to the MG4+ model but features G/Lock soft spikes for added grip. The brand also claims the O2 G/Lock offers superior comfort compared to last year.
The O2 G/Lock features an innovative sole design, breathable mesh lining, waterproof upper, and removable washable insoles. These features combine for all-around performance.

Inside the shoes is a performance mesh lining that offers enhanced breathability and controls any bad odours. Alongside this is a strategically positioned foam interior with padded tongue for out of the box comfort.
The brand claim the shoes are lightweight and waterproof offering extra protection and durability. So it will be interesting to test this out when on the course.

Around the heel is a moulded counter to help with support and stability. The midsole is designed with a responsive EVA midsole alongside a Auxentic Sidewall to help sustain all day comfort.
Beneath the shoes is a TPU base plate with built-in traction to stabilise your feet during lateral movement.

Looks And Feel
Before getting my hands on the shoes, I was greeted by a stylish red box that hinted at something cool inside. My initial impression of the shoes was off-putting. However, after taking them out of the box, I began to see what the hype was about.

I was pretty surprised to see the Navy colourways having never worn a blue shoe before. They kind of reminded me of a pair of Nike TW14 shoes from years back, with its luxury plastic material and large white sponge outsole.
The TW14 shoes were by far my favourite golf shoes to wear growing up, so comparing these is quite the compliment.
The shoes definitely give you the sense of luxury fashion out the box, which is important as these are definitely not cheap with a price tag of £185.

In-hand these felt reasonably weighted for a spiked golf shoe. I definitely wouldn’t say they were overly light compared to my own FJ Tour Alphas though.

Around the heel and sole you could see that the shoes were very solid, with a pretty rigid heel and very spongey feeling sole.
This is a combination I tend to prefer when golfing. Having the two combined helps for comfort when walking, and stability when swinging a club.

Underneath the sole is a bright blue footplate that feels very rigid, so I didn’t expect these shoes to be very flexible on different terrains.

Comfort
Whilst popping the shoes on I noticed the brand’s 3D moulded insole straight away. At first this was uncomfortable but after walking for a bit, the insoles proved to be quite relaxing. This was the first G/Fore shoe that I have tested, so to find this for the first time was quite the surprise!

My normal UK size is a 10-10.5 and I tested these in a 10.5, they were definitely a very snug fit. My foot felt very secure around the heel, without much bending flexibility in the foot. There was also a lot of cushioning in the heel side too.

Whilst walking around I noticed that I was struggling to walk normally. I tend to land heel first then roll forward towards the toe. However with this shoe, I felt like I could only walk flat footed with it. Even though the shoes were really comfortable I could sense that my feet weren’t enjoying the flat walking style.

Performance
On a positive note, when swinging I definitely enjoyed the extra stability. There was so much grip on the turf which definitely filled me with confidence in different ground conditions.
My feet were unable to move from side to side which I really enjoy when hitting. It allows me to really focus more on my swing rather than worrying about coming off balance.
I tested the waterproofness by walking through wet grass, and the shoes excelled, with water running off easily. The shoes are well-sealed, a big plus for a hybrid style of shoe. With the O2 G/Lock, you’ll stay dry unless walking through very high wet grass.

G/Fore MG4+ O2 G/Lock Golf Shoe Verdict
The overall look and performance of the shoe was definitely interesting. I loved the look of the shoes and first impressions when trying them on were fantastic. However, for my current walking style I really struggled with the lack of arch support and the toe heavy design.

On the plus side I do think these shoes feel very premium. You can really tell that all the materials used feel very high quality and durable. My feet when hitting felt great – loads of grip, stability and comfort. Contrary to this, the shoes are made by G/Fore and so unfortunately do come in at a very premium price of £185.
Overall, I think the MG4+ O2 G/Lock shoes are a very high quality golf shoe that are super stylish, and definitely worth considering if you can cope with the sole design and lack of arch support.
Would I Wear Them?
Yes I would, for 9 holes max though. Unless I can find a replacement arch support I would really struggle to walk in these shoes for a full round of golf.
