The new Ecco Biom H5 Shoe is the latest offering from the brand who invented the hybrid golf shoe.

It’s said to be inspired by the wild and rugged landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, and is built for durability against the elements.
Having previously tested the BIOM H4 model a couple of years ago, I was looking forward to seeing how the latest generation performed.
Who Are They Aimed At?
Hybrid golf shoes provide a perfect balance of usability and performance. They’re spikeless, so they can be used off the golf course, but still offer plenty of stability and grip for year-round use.
The BIOM H5 provides everything you expect from Ecco – comfort, support, and plenty of technology designed to make walking and swinging easier.
With an RRP of £190, it’s pretty expensive for a spikeless shoe.
The Tech
If you’ve used Ecco shoes before, you’ll know that they always include plenty of technology.
The shoe features a new Ecco-Tex waterproof membrane, keeping your feet dry. It merges performance leather with a knit sock for all-day comfort.

The brand’s Natural Motion last, which the shoe is constructed around, helps to offer stability and forward momentum.

This year sees an update to the outsole for a new E-TTS outsole. It’s inspired by the Scottish Highlands and offers multi-directional traction and durability.

An Ortholite insole offers plenty of cushioning, and is removable for extra width.
Comfort also comes thanks to the Natural Motion technology, with low-to-the ground stability, anatomical support and a glove-like fit.
The shoe is available in both lace and Boa closure systems to suit your own preference.
Ecco BIOM H5 Shoe Review
Looks and Feel
The BIOM H5 has a more modern and interesting design compared to the BIOM H4. It looks a little more contemporary but still has that unmistakable Ecco feel, which is great to see.

The white and blue colorway looks really smart, but there are plenty of other options to choose from. I’m a big fan of the white and green version, and the mesh finish is a great choice for summer—it just feels fresh and breathable.
One cool detail is the textured pattern on the midsole, which Ecco says is inspired by the Scottish Highlands. It adds a nice bit of character without being over the top.

And while the midsole design is quite distinctive from the side, you don’t really notice it when you’re standing over a shot, so there’s no risk of it being distracting.

As always with Ecco, the build quality is top-notch. The BIOM H5 keeps that trend going with a premium leather upper paired with a super comfortable knit sock, making it feel just as good as it looks.
Performance
Stability-wise, these shoes are excellent. I played from all kinds of lies—fairway bunkers, slopes—and felt completely secure the whole time.

Like I mentioned earlier, they’re seriously comfortable. The cushioning is spot on, and the locked-in feel makes them almost feel like a pair of trainers. The sock liner and soft leather upper really help with that, too.
They’re also nice and lightweight, which makes walking 18 holes a breeze. Plus, they’re super breathable, which was a lifesaver when I tested them in Singapore’s 30+ degree heat.

I’ve been a fan of Ecco shoes for years now. I still remember going to Le Golf National for the BIOM Cool Pro launch back in 2019 and coming away convinced that Ecco made some of the best quality, most comfortable golf shoes out there.
There’s plenty of competition these days, but I still think you’d struggle to find a brand that beats them on comfort. These just felt so reliable—I could swing freely without worrying about my footing. Honestly, I forgot I was even wearing a brand-new pair straight out of the box, which is always a good sign.
Ecco BIOM H5 Shoe Verdict
Ecco shoes seem to be getting better looking every year, and the BIOM H5 is no exception.
The updated design might appeal more to younger golfers, but it still keeps that classic Ecco feel.

Performance has never been an issue with Ecco shoes, and that continues here. Compared to the BIOM H4, these feel a bit lighter, look a bit sharper, and still deliver the same top-tier performance.
The £190 price tag is still on the higher side, especially for a spikeless shoe. But they’re built to last and versatile enough for year-round use, so they’re a solid investment.
Would I Use Them?

Absolutely, and I would happily recommend them to anyone who wants a comfortable, sturdy and versatile pair of shoes for the new season.
