GPS watch technology has improved massively in the last decade or so, with golfers having access to a plethora of information and the ability to track all sorts of metrics right on their wrist. As a result, the handheld GPS device seems to have lost a bit of momentum, but Shot Scope are still looking to cater for golfers who want this kind of setup with the introduction of the new Shot Scope H50 GPS Handheld.

Using the same golf mapping technology that you’ll see in all of Shot Scope’s watches, the H50 offers fast and accurate yardages as well as visual data in a compact touchscreen device.
It’s designed to help golfers improve their club selection and decision making on-course. The device displays front, middle and back distances, as well as ‘plays like’ yardages which account for elevation changes.

Using a combination of dual-band GPS technology, along with yard by yard course mapping, allows Shot Scope to offer the highest levels of precision from a handheld device.
“The launch of the H50 represents an important milestone in our mission to transform the way golfers visualise each hole. By bringing detailed mapping and green contour insights to a large, responsive touchscreen, the H50 helps golfers plan every shot from tee to green with confidence.”
“It’s an exciting development for anyone looking to improve their course management without complexity.”
David Hunter, CEO of Shot Scope.
The Tech
The H50 comes preloaded with more than 42,000 golf courses worldwide. This offers more than 600,000 mapped holes, with Shot Scope’s team updating more than 8,000 courses each year to maintain accuracy.
It shows detailed hole maps, green view with pin placement, green contours, and elevation maps to help with better shot planning throughout the round.

The 4.3 inch touchscreen offers brightness and clarity in all lighting, and is waterproof for reliable performance in rain or wet conditions.
The interactive mapping gives golfers a full overview from the tee, with viewing modes including satellite imagery, automatic hole zoom and large green distances.
They can see hazards, layups, doglegs and landing areas using a touch and drag functionality.

A built-in scorecard connects to the Shot Scope app, so that golfers can sync rounds, check scores and store data.
It also includes a competition mode, that disables features like slope and elevation to comply with the rules of golf.
Available from 16th March, the new Shot Scope H50 GPS Handheld is priced at an RRP of £249.99.
