For golfers looking to improve their short game with more consistency and get rid of those card-wrecking episodes around the greens, Callaway are introducing a new CB Wedge to their lineup, which they say makes versatility easier than ever.
This isn’t the first time that the brand have offered something like this in recent years, as we tested the Mack Daddy CB Wedge just a couple of years back.
This time around they’ve lost the Mack Daddy from the name, although you will see a number of the same technologies in this wedge as in their top-line MD wedges used on Tour.
The wedge features a cavity back design which produces a more friendly shape at address, making it more playable on all types of wedge shots, while the larger head size and addition of grooves across the face are designed to add more confidence at address.
The sole has a pre-worn leading edge which is designed to skid across the turf and avoid digging, and this pairs up with higher bounce to add even more forgiveness and more consistent turf interaction.
The CB is the first wedge to use Callaway’s Urethane Microspheres, which are placed behind the hitting area of the face to provide better sound and feel despite the fact that it is a cavity back wedge.
On the face there are Jaws grooves, which Callaway say is the ‘most aggressive groove in golf’ to deliver high levels of spin. The grooves have been treated with a face blast to enhance roughness on the face, helping to add extra spin on short shots around the green.
The grooves stretch across the face to help golfers achieve more spin regardless of where they may strike it.
There are both premium steel and graphite shaft options available, while Callaway have also partnered with Golf Pride to develop a specialist wedge grip which is longer than normal in order to allow golfers to grip down on certain shots for enhanced control.
The Callaway CB Wedge is available in lofts between 48 and 60 degrees, and will be at retail from 7th July at an RRP of �149.
