Callaway states that utility irons have become are a popular choice on Tour these days, especially as a �fairway finder� off the tee. It also claims that they’re a versatile club for golfers hitting into the green on Par-5s. These golfers could now potentially have a new weapon in their arsenal, the Callaway X Forged utility iron.
Said to be packed with Callaway�s best technologies in a confidence-inspiring, hollow body construction, these clubs are for the better players who want a new go-to club in their bag, Callaway say’s: “This is the player�s utility you�re looking for.”
This is Callaway Golf, this is also 2020, so expect there to be some technology packed into this new hollow head, and expect it to promise big things for your golf game. If used correctly…
High ball speeds are promised due to the A.I.-designed Flash Face Cup, seen in most of Callaway’s Mavrik range for 2020 creating a sophisticated face architecture, for high ball speeds with what Callaway refer to as ‘outstanding spin robustness’. Forged from 1025 mild carbon steel and boasting a hollow body construction combined with Callaway’s proprietary urethane microspheres, this new utility iron also promises an extremely satisfying strong feel.
Enhanced launch and control is said to come from Callaway’s external MIM�d tungsten weighting which has allowed them to precisely locate the CG position for optimal trajectory and launch. this is then coupled with a longer blade length and a wider sole compared a traditional long iron which provides forgiveness and control.
Callaway is also pretty keen in making sure this seen as a ‘premium’ golf club, therefore you get the usual premium components in the form of the Project X U shaft, specifically designed to work with utility clubs for stability and control whereas the Project X HZRDUS Smoke Black HY is a player�s graphite shaft designed with low torque for aggressive swingers. A Golf Pride Z Grip features a firm feel and exceptional traction also to complete the package.
All this good stuff however, as you can imagine, all comes at a price as the new X Forged Utility iron will cost you a hefty �229 in both steel and graphite shafts.
