Lightweight versatility combines with the classic Warbird sole.

Looking for the fairway wood that does everything? Well we may have one for you if our friends from Callaway Golf are to be believed. The Big Bertha V series promises “speed, long distance, speed, versatility, speed, friendliness, and more speed”, so what’s not to like?

As with the Big Berth V Series Driver the design of the V Series fairway is driven by the need for speed and science tells us that means lightweight.

The Big Bertha V Series fairway’s feature Callaway’s Speed Optimized Technololgy to make them as fast as possible. A lightweight clubhead design, a lightweight shaft and advanced clubhead aerodynamics to minimise drag on the down swing add up to maximum clubhead speed.

All this clubhead speed needs to be translated into ball speed and it is clear that the playability of the club is not something Callaway have left out of the equation. The Hyper Speed face of the V Series increases ball speeds across the hitting area so off centre strikes don’t sacrifice distance or consistency.

Callaway have also recognised that the modern fairway wood needs to be hit from a variety of lies and positions around the course and they have addressed this by introducing a modern version of their famous “Warbird” soleplate, updated with current technology, but delivering the versatility for which the original Warbird was famous.

Playability is also evident in the number of options available in the Big Bertha V Series. Models ranging from 3 wood to 9 wood cover lofts of 15.5 to 25 whilst the reintroduction of another famous Callaway name, the “Heavenwood”, offers even more.

The Heavenwood is designed to give more consistent distance and accuracy than a traditional 4-wood or 7-wood set up and sits between the 5-wood and 7-wood with a loft of 20.5 but a shaft length of 43″ drops it between the 3 and 5-woods for the best of both worlds.

So there you have it, a fairway that fits into the Callaway Big Bertha V Series ethos that “You Can’t Argue With Physics” to deliver lightweight speed and distance but with a nod to forgiveness, consistency and the ability to deliver from any part of the course.
