Titleist’s AVX ball was first launched in 2018, offering an alternative to the Pro V1 and Pro V1x at the top end of the market for golfers who want a lower flying, lower spinning premium ball.

Since then we have seen a number of different generations released, and the newest model has been re-engineered to offer more greenside spin without sacrificing any of the usual performance golfers have come to expect.

Titleist say that, when it came to developing this latest model, they asked AVX users what they wanted most. The most popular answer was greenside spin.
In order to achieve this, their engineers had to steepen the ‘spin slope’ of the AVX. This essentially means the difference between long game spin and short game spin.
To increase short game spin, a new urethane cover is thicker than previous generations. This provides more spin and control around the greens, and also offers a softer feel.

To compensate for the thicker dimensions, the high flex casing layer has been made thinner, helping to dial in spin rates from distance.

The core was then reengineered to offer more speed. This was necessary to balance the changes to the cover, and ensure that Titleist could still offer the long distance and low spin in the long game that is the hallmark of the AVX ball.
Who should use AVX?
Titleist say AVX is best suited to golfers who want long distance, low spin and a penetrating ball flight in the long game. With the latest model, this combines with stopping power into the green and a soft feel.
Comparing to the Titleist Pro V1, the AVX will fly lower, with lower spin and an even softer feel.

The new Titleist AVX balls will be available from 21st January. They’re offered in white or high-optic yellow, at an SRP of £44 per dozen.
