TaylorMade have been growing in the golf ball market for a few years now, and the brand say that the latest generation of their TP5 and TP5x golf balls for 2026 are going to take things to the next level.

That’s because they’ve developed a new microcoating technology, changing the way that golf balls are painted to provide much more consistent results and encourage better performance.
They say that as golf balls are the only bit of golf gear that is hit on every shot, and the only bit that is changed in a round, having consistency from ball to ball and shot to shot is vital.
In order to try and improve these consistency levels, TaylorMade have invested millions of dollars in golf ball R&D over the last five years. Their research has found that the traditional ball finishing process produces a tendency for excess paint to sit in the bottle of certain dimples. This means that it is uneven across the ball, producing consistencies in ball flight.

Using that information, TaylorMade have introduced a new microcoating process to create a thin, even application of paint across the entire surface of the golf ball. This process includes controlling cure times and temperatures, and measuring to one-millionth of a gram of how much paint is used.
For golfers, the result of this is more predictable dispersion including an optimised peak height, consistent distance, tighter left to right misses, and more reliable performance especially in the wind.
TaylorMade 2026 TP5 Golf Ball
Early impressions have been good, with Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa already making the switch into the 2026 TP5, which TaylorMade say is the fastest TP5 to date.

It has the brand’s largest core for a Tour ball, reducing contact time with the face at impact. This encourages better energy retention and faster ball speeds on full shots.
There’s also a new Tour Flight Dimple Pattern. It features a new dimple design to minimise turbulance, with an optimised lift-to-drag ration for a more penetrating flight.
TaylorMade 2026 TP5x Golf Ball
The TP5x is TaylorMade’s lowest spinning, fastest five-layer ball. This is due to new mantle layers, featuring new materials for better ball speeds at the top end of the bag.

This core also allows for firmer material to be used for the three mantle layers of the ‘speed gradient’. The mantle construction helps to fine-tune spin throughout the flight.
Around the green there is an ultrathin cast urethane cover, providing extra wedge spin for more precise distance control and a soft feel.

TaylorMade are one of the best-known brands when it comes to golf ball visuals. This continues with the new TP5 range, as the balls are going to be offered in Stripe, White, Yellow and Pix colourways. There are also going to be officially licensed NFL designs, as well as TRKR for indoor use with launch monitors.

A new Tour Stripe with 360° Tour ClearPath Alignment now has tighter lines, with a new performance dot for golfers to focus on when addressing putts.
