TaylorMade have launched their second set of irons under the Rocket name. The new RocketBladez feature a new Speed Pocket designed to promote faster ball speed and a higher launch.
Much like the speed pocket in the TaylorMade RBZ fairway woods, the new 2mm Speed Pocket is incorporated into the 3 through 7 irons and flexes at impact, increasing speed.
TaylorMade did extensive research and found that 72% of all shots, from golfers with handicaps from 5 to 25, are struck below the centre of the face. The new Speed Pocket is designed to address this, and create a face that can add speed and distance even on those low-face strikes.
We heard from TaylorMade's President and CEO, Mark King, who said:
"Metalwoods have advanced tremendously since TaylorMade introduced the first one in 1979. The ball has advanced too, and even footwear and apparel have improved a great deal. But there hasn't been a significant advancement in irons since the perimeter-weighted cavityback was introduced more than 50 years ago. The RocketBallz Speed Pocket changes that – it’s a once-in-a-lifetime innovation in the iron category. If your iron doesn’t have a Speed Pocket, your iron is out-dated."
To further enhance the RocketBladez iron and allow for a more custom fit iron each club features a distinct notch on the rear of the hosel (pictured left), along with an internal notch, that allows the club to be bent to easily adjust the lie angle.
The RocketBladez technology will also be available in a RocketBallz Tour iron, targeted to better players and Tour players.
