Since their inception way back in the late 1970s, Cleveland Golf have forged a reputation as one of the most respected names in the golf equipment industry, particularly when it comes to wedges as they have overseen a number of pioneering technologies.
The brand have this week announced details of the sixth generation of their RTX wedge which has been used by the likes of Hideki Matsuyama and Shane Lowry to win major championships over the last few years.
The RTX6 ZipCore is designed to provide golfers with consistently high-spinning shots regardless of the lie thanks to three main "technological breakthroughs"...
HydraZip
The primary factor behind these new high spin rates is said to be HydraZip. This is a technology that utilises dynamic face blasts and laser lines to provide extra friction for more spin consistency in both wet and dry conditions.
Cleveland's R&D testing showed 43% more spin in wet conditions with the RTX6 compared to the previous RTX ZipCore.
ZipCore
Continuing from the previous generation is the ZipCore technology, which is the key to extra consistency. This is a unique, low density core which is designed to provide a bigger sweet spot and raise the MOI for more forgiveness, all while pushing the CG right behind the impact zone for more consistently.
Adding both high/low and heel/toe MOI into every wedge in the line also helps to generate more spin, distance and control.
UltiZip
The wedge also features UltiZip technology which helps golfer to cut through debris more easily and achieve more consistent results.
The grooves are sharper, deeper and tightly spaced, for enhanced spin, control and consistency.
All the work put into this wedge, we really focused on finding the perfect balance of versatility and consistency. UltiZip is a notable example. Without grooves you don't have a wedge, so we equipped the RTX6 ZipCore with our sharpest groove radii ever, imparting more spin and control, and now golfers won't have to worry how their wedge is going to react in certain conditions, they'll know.

The RTX6 ZipCore has four different sole grinds along with lofts ranging from 46-60 degrees. The Low, Mid and Full grind options carry on from the previous generation, with the addition of a new Low+ grind on the sand wedge lofts.
This provides 2 degrees more bounce in a C-shaped sole, providing extra bounce in bunkers.
Available from 17th March, the new RTX6 ZipCore Wedges are priced at £159 (£169 graphite shaft) and available in Tour Satin, with additional finishes coming later in the year. They are fitted with Dynamic Gold Spinner Tour Issue shafts and Lamkin Crossline 360 grips as standard.
