If you’re in the market for a new putter then one brand that you can definitely trust is Odyssey. Their tour trusted Ai-One family now has a more traditional look following the launch of the Silver Series. I’ve selected the Ai-One Seven S putter to test, as this is a shape I’ve become accustomed to, so let’s dive into it.

Who Is it Aimed At?

Golfers who have a good understanding of their stroke could really benefit from the Seven S mid toe weight design. As a general rule most mallet putters are designed to be face balanced, suiting a neutral arc putting stroke.

The Seven S neck design features slight toe hang, ideal for golfers with a slight arc in their stroke. This putter suits golfers wanting a mallet design with extra toe weight for improved performance.

The Tech

The Ai-One Insert features contoured aluminum backing, moulded to a White Hot Urethane face. This design promotes consistent ball speed across the face while maintaining the classic White Hot feel preferred by Tour players and amateurs.

The Ai Window has been developed by Odyssey designers and engineers. This unique automotive-grade polymer has been used to reveal the back of the insert.

The SL 90 Shaft is a lightweight steel shaft with 20–30 grams of counterbalance weight in the butt end. This evolution of Odyssey’s Stroke Lab Weighting is designed to appeal to an even wider range of golfers.

Odyssey’s most popular Ai-One models now come in a new silver finish for a classic, premium look.

Interchangeable front weights in 5, 10, 15, and 20 grams let you precisely adjust the head weight. A variety of Silver Series models are available, including the #1 CH, #1 Double Wide, #7 DB, and #7 S.

Odyssey Ai One Silver Seven S Putter Review

Looks and Feel

To start with, I really love the traditional look of this putter, even though it hasn’t got any crazy colours or design features. This year’s design comes across very minimalistic, clean and very classy.

On the sole of the putter there is a navy blue pallet showing hints of the original Ai One model. This definitely offers more of a premium finish as it contrasts well with the silver finish.

Alongside this is the Ai window, which shows a small glass window where you can see inside the putter head. Personally I’m not sure how beneficial this is, as there’s nothing really to see in there other than a little air pocket.

You’ve also got a couple of weights underneath offering more to the premium finish Odyssey have gone for.

Down at address you can see three white lines to help with alignment. I love the main top line as it’s really useful for lining putts up. If you use the alignment from your golf ball, they will mirror each other perfectly.

The face reminds me of the traditional White Hot insert, but up close you’ll notice finely milled lines. Odyssey added these subtle lines to reduce spin and promote a smooth, natural roll. It’s a really nice addition to the putter, further elevating the overall finish.

The putter felt similar to the original White Hot inserts, but slightly firmer and more forgiving. It still provided that signature clicky sound off the face.

Performance

To test this putter properly, I checked if I could consistently hit my start line. I also evaluated how easily I could gauge distance on both uphill and downhill putts.

First of all I started off by using my Visio T-Bar. Simply hitting a few putts down a ‘ruler’ shows straight away whether the ball is rolling on line or not. Any imperfections in face angle would cause the ball to fall off.

Out of 10 putts from 10 feet I managed to hit eight of them perfectly on line. Some putts I struggled to release the toe properly causing an open face and miss right. But generally some really good putts to start with, which definitely filled me with confidence on shorter putts.

On longer putts from 30 feet, I found the weight of the putter to be on the lighter side but very easy flowing especially on faster greens. I hit some putts downhill to start, and straight away I noticed how consistent my speed control was. With two putts going exactly the same distance and the other going in the hole!

Again I tested this a number of times both uphill and downhill and couldn’t believe how easy it was to gauge the speed of the greens.

Out on the course this was the same result, it was very easy to gauge the distance. However I must say on shorter putts I did miss the Versa vertical alignment aid from my own Odyssey Works Versa putter.

This is something Odyssey seem to be fluttering between bi-yearly, but I wish they offered it every time as a lot of people may like this design better.

Odyssey Ai One Silver Seven S Putter Verdict

The Odyssey Ai One Silver Seven S Putter looks really smart in-hand and offers some fantastic performance benefits. For golfers looking for a face balanced putter and needing that extra help in speed control then the Seven S is a great option to look at.

The Seven S model might not be accustomed to your stroke but generally the feel and the weighting won’t be too dissimilar to the other models in the lineup.

The Silver models all come with a traditional white and blue Ai-One pistol grip that feels spongey on the outside but with a firmer underlayer. It felt good, but could mark up easily over time.

To match the grip, all the Seven S models come with a white and blue leather headcover that I think looks really smart and feels very high quality in-hand.

But overall a very nice putter to test out, other than missing the Versa alignment from previous models, this putter offers classic looks with premium performance.

Would I Use It?

Absolutely, it’s a great putter that feels and sounds great. Alongside it’s classic looks I really enjoyed testing the Seven S putter and look forward to trying out other models in future.
