Who? 30 year-old American Max Homa.
What? The 2021 Genesis Invitational, his second PGA Tour win.
Where? Riviera Country Club, Pacific Palisades, California.
How? Sam Burns had led the tournament through the first three rounds, but Homa's bogey-free 66 on Sunday leapfrogged him and the American had a chance to win the tournament on his final hole, only to narrowly miss a three-foot birdie putt. Homa finished on 12 under where he was joined by Tony Finau after his stunning 64, and after a miraculous escape on the first playoff hole from under a tree, a par 3 on the second was enough to give him the victory.
Following the victory, Homa said:
"I don't know if I could ever do anything cooler in golf than this. Just for me, for my caddie Joe, we were raised 25 miles north of here. Tiger Woods is handing us a trophy, that's a pretty crazy thought. We grew up idolizing him, idolizing Riviera Country Club, idolizing the golf tournament. To get it done, it's almost shocking, but it feels like it just can't be topped."
