Who? 29 year-old American Patrick Reed.
What? The 2020 WGC-Mexico Championship, his second WGC title.
Where? Golf Club de Chapultepec, Mexico City, Mexico.
How? Amid more stories of cheating allegations during the week, Reed stood firm and seemed to again be motivated by the negative reports, with a sublime week of putting that included 45 one-putts. The final round was extremely tight, with the lead switching between Rahm, Van Rooyen, Thomas, DeChambeau and Reed at various points, but it was Reed who made two late birdies on the 16th and 17th to edge out Bryson by a single stroke and win his second WGC title.
Following the victory, Reed said:
It’s very rewarding. My team and I have worked so hard through the end of last year and the beginning of this year. We were playing some good golf but we weren’t quite able to get over the hump.
