Who? 30 year-old Italian Andrea Pavan.
What? The 2019 BMW International Open, his second European Tour victory.
Where? Golfclub Munchen Eichenried, Munich, Germany.
How? Pavan set the clubhouse lead at 15-under par, which was matched by Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick thanks to a birdie at the 18th, setting up a playoff. On the second extra hole, Pavan’s excellent approach shot from the left-hand rough came to finish just two feet from the hole, resulting in a birdie which was enough for victory.
Following the victory, Pavan said:
It’s amazing. I thought I had a chance starting the day. This hole (the 18th) is not the best for me without the driver but I managed to make birdie. Two years ago at this moment I was really struggling. I can’t enough thank my coach, my caddy, my family, my wife – it’s really amazing.
