What? The 2025 Players Championship, his twenty-eighth PGA Tour win.
Where? TPC Sawgrass, Florida.
How? Despite having last year’s driver delivered to the tournament last-minute via Uber, Rory McIlroy picked up his second Players title after overcoming JJ Spaun in a Monday playoff.
McIlroy had started the final round four strokes off the lead, but made a birdie and an eagle early on to storm into contention. He held a one-stroke lead after 11 holes, and had multiple chances to win in regular time on Sunday before settling for a playoff with JJ Spaun.
Returning on Monday morning, McIlroy birdied the par-5 16th and safely found the green on the 17th, where Spaun hit his tee shot in the water and made a triple bogey. McIlroy tapped in for an even par score on the 18th to win.
