The Cobra AMP fairway wood continues the fine performance of the S3 fairways with a generours head size that is very easy to hit. The sound and feel is very good and gave the impression that the ball is coming off the face with good forgiveness and a very solid contact.
The trailing edge of the sole is a smoother curve than the S3 and this will be a very easy club to hit from tight lies. For the first time Cobra have added in their AFT Adjustable Flight Technology to enable you to change the face angle from neutral to close or open. As you close the face it actually adds loft so getting fitted for the right loft/face angle combination could be very important here.
The neutral and closed settings do send the ball a little higher than average and we preferred the open setting. This actually looked pretty square, but gave a much better flight and performance, so even if you are a straight hitter, we would recommned trying it in this setting.
Other than that most of the changes are visual with a striking silver, black and orange colour scheme combining well. The silver head and black face make the head appear larger and easier to line up. The Lamkin REL 3Gen grip is lovely to hold and the Rickie Folwer orange grip compliments the excellent Aldila shaft.
The RRPs Cobra are quoting seem a little on the high side, but if the AMP ends up in more of a mid market price range over time then this will be a good value fairway wood, especially if you like to look a little different on the course.
