Flat-stick specialist Scotty Cameron has announced an upgrade to their main Select line of putters, with two more of the increasingly-popular mid mallet models added to the collection thanks to feedback from some of the brand’s top Tour players.
The Select Fastback 2 and Select Squareback 1.5 feature specific neck configurations and performance characteristics so that golfers are able to feel as confident as possible when standing over important putts.
Master Craftsman Scotty Cameron said of the collection:
Extending the Select line was all about taking the feedback we got from players and incorporating it into new offerings. Shortly after we introduced the 2018 Fastback and Squareback models on tour, players began asking for them with prototype necks. We are seeing more and more players gravitate to these nice, compact head shapes.
They’re not blades and not exactly mallets. We call them mid-mallets. By creating the Fastback 2 with a plumbing neck, and the Squareback 1.5 with our mini-slant neck, we’re giving players everything they asked for and more.
Both models feature the same multi-material construction as seen in the rest of the line, with a precision milled and MOI-raising 6061 aircraft aluminium face-sole which sits in the 303 stainless steel putter head, producing excellent feel and consistency.
Advanced stability weighting is also continued in these two new models, which entails two stainless steel weights in the heel and two that are customisable dependant on the golfer’s own putting traits. This weighting is also optimised by a stepless steel shaft for a perfect, balanced feel, whilst the Black and Silber Matador midsize grips combine the comfort of a larger grip with the added feedback of a thin grip.
Like the rest of the Select putters, the Fastback and Squareback come with a raw stainless steel finish which Scotty Cameron say amounts to a ‘radiant yet glare-resistant appearance’. The iconic cherry dots have been made smaller on the sole of the Fastback and the sole and the heel of the Squareback, with simplified typography to create a more refined look.
Scotty Cameron Select Fastback 2
This upgrade comes as a result to feedback from Scotty’s Tour players, who were keen on a plumbing neck to be added to the original Fastback model from last year. Therefore, one shafts-worth of offset has been added to the mid-mallet to provide a familiar and reassuring look. There has also been slight adjustments made to the topline for a thinner look at address, along with a slightly reduced face height.
Scotty Cameron Select Squareback 1.5
The new Squareback’s main alteration is a new mini-slant neck which Scotty Cameron says creates a squarer looking head which is easy to align. This also produces a touch more toe flow than the Select Squareback which has a mid-bend neck. The Squareback 1.5 also features similar changes to topline thickness and overall face height.
Available from February 15th worldwide, the Select Fastback 2 and Squareback 1.5 putters at an RRP of £365.
