How golfers approach a round or a shot can differ. One thing that is certain though is that if a golfer uses a Garmin Approach S6 watch, they will be better prepared.
That is because the S6 is the most advanced, lightest, thinnest golf GPS watch Garmin have created. Loaded with more than 30,000 courses across the world, its high resolution touchscreen can display yardages, graphics and even text or emails sent to your iPhone.
At just 46.6 grams, the Approach S6 features a slick, new slimline, lightweight design. The glove-friendly, full colour touchscreen is readable even in bright sunlight and can display a host of information to help you on your way around the course or on the range.
Features
Beyond the simple front, middle and back distances the S6 can display, it can also use Garmin's CourseView feature allowing you to preview doglegs, bunkers, water hazards and lay-up areas.
And when you do come to hitting your shot into the green, you can zero in on the exact pin location using Green View, a feature that allows players to tap on the flag on the green, zoom in to the green shape and drag the flag position, giving a more accurate yardage to the hole.
Caring For The Blind
One of the common drawbacks of GPS devices like the Approach S6 is blind shots. They are typically able to offer yardages but not help with direction. Well, worry no more. The S6 has a PinPointer feature that displays a yardage along with a directional arrow to the green.
Scores And Stats
In addition to removing the need to walk out distances, the S6 removes the scorecard from your pocket too. It's scoring feature allows golfers to keep track of individual holes, player’s handicaps, stroke play and stableford scores and you lets your save, review, share and print scorecards from your computer.
Additionally the Approach S6 can measure individual shots and stats. The Measure Shot feature can start and stop a live measurement of a long drive or approach, whilst stats like fairways, greens in regulation and putts per round can also be tracked.
Garmin Connect is the Garmin's online golf community that lets players play, share and compare online. You can easily download your round, compare it to your last round and track improvements to your handicap for every course you play. And if you want to feel better about your game, Garmin Connect can even assemble your ideal round combining your best score for each hole to get your ideal 18 for that course.
Swing Tempo And Strength
Two all-new features on the S6 include both a SwingTempo and SwingStrength tracker.
Swing tempo is the timing ratio between the backswing and downswing and useful for getting your swing in the right rhythm. If you have trouble finding the right tempo then TempoTraining allows you to select from pre-set speeds and uses audible tones to help.
Swing strength is a measurement of how hard you swing compared to your, previously measured, full swing. Garmin believe this will be useful for golfers practising consistency in how hard they swing. and can also be used when trying to dial in a less than full swing.
Never Miss A Text Again
Last, but certainly not least, is the Garmin's Smart Notification service. In the modern world of communication and smartphones, it can be frustrating to miss texts and emails or have to dig through your bag to read them. That problem has been eliminated in the Approach S6. The watch acts as a wireless extension of your smartphone (iPhone 4s or later) and will let you know when you receive a text or email.
Packed with a rechargable lithium-ion battery, Garmin say the Approach S6 will last up to 12 hours in full GPS mode and up to 12 weeks in the basic watch mode. Whilst they don't advise you go swimming after a ball hit into a water hazard, the Approach S6 is rated with waterproof protection up to 50 metres.
