Adidas is going back in time to bring golfers a new spin on iconic styles that characterised an era in golf footwear.
Today, adidas unveils the MC80, a new spikeless footwear style packed with premium materials and technology, inspired by the rich legacy of Adidas golf footwear dating back to the 1980s.
With nearly 50 years in designing golf footwear, Adidas has continued to introduce footwear models that offer golfers performance and function with unique styles. Inspired to create the MC80, Adidas designers took creativity from the rising popularity of retro-style footwear in the sport.
"Golfers today are very much intrigued by the footwear styles from the past, but they also want a shoe that can offer modern-day performance benefits out on the course. The personality and style of MC80 are primarily designed to give golfers that modern classic silhouette but we were able to include so many benefits that golfers don’t see.
The biggest surprise that they will discover is how comfortable these shoes are out of the box, but then they’ll notice the stability and traction to go along the rich finish in the upper. It’s a unique model that we’re excited for golfers to experience.”
Masun Denison, global director of footwear, Adidas Golf.
The MC80 has a leather top with brogue stitch detailing and croc texture throughout. Adidas has blended the ‘lightstrike’ in the midsole with boost cushioning in the heel, said to produce unexpected comfort and stability.
The MC80 includes Adidas’s torsion bar in the outsole, aimed to give players greater torsion control and stability. Adidas also integrated a spikeless TPU outsole for extra traction, completing the style with a rubber welt in the midsole.
Hefty and rigid, past qualities that commonly accompanied Adidas golf footwear models have been replaced with a lightweight and flexible upper, aimed to provide golfers with greater comfort as they walk during their rounds. The MC80 also includes an insite pu insole said to improve fit, comfort, and stability.
The MC80 golf shoes offer a range of colourways, featuring a classic white and black, white with pops of yellow, and a special white and light blue limited-edition colourway exclusively for adiClub members.
The new MC80 footwear will be available August 1 with a RRP of £140.
