Wilson has long believed that soft is best when it comes to golf ball design.
When we interviewed Frank Simonutti, Global Director of Innovation for Wilson Golf Balls, he told us balls were getting softer because it was a design principle that brought results for all players.
For 2018 Wilson is updating its popular DX2 Soft and DX3 models to further enhance their performance.
The DX2, credited as the world's softest ball with a ground-breaking 29 compression, has been re-designed with a 3% increase to the 1.595 inch diameter of its core size to generate more ball velocity for players looking for extra distance. The ball also has a softer and thinner Sodium/Zinc ionomer cover for optimum distance and durability.
The 40 compression DX3 Soft Spin is the world's softest multi-layer golf ball and Wilson has given it a new inner core to generate low spin from the driver. This means it produces the longest driver distance and softest compression of any 3-piece Surlyn golf ball, whilst a new responsive HPF blend mantle and softer surlyn cover give increased spin on approach shots.
Frank Simonutti explains:
The re-construction of both the DX2 Soft and DX3 Soft Spin golf balls has produced incredible performance statistics measured against similar golf balls on the market. Every Wilson Staff DX ball is the world’s softest compression ball in its category and continues to be at the forefront of golf ball technology.
Both the new DX2 Soft and DX3 Soft Spin balls have had their dimple depths adjusted to make them shallower by 5.7% and they feature the new 302SL-H Dimple Pattern for higher trajectory and longer distance.
