Adidas are known worldwide for their cutting edge design and advancements in the sports market, and their latest release appears to be no different as they have introduced a world-first to the golfing industry.
As part of an ongoing strategy to increase the use of recycled materials in their apparel and footwear, they have announced a special edition version of their Tour360 XT shoes.
These are the first golf shoes to be made from upcycled plastic waste which has been intercepted from beaches and coastal communities. And what better time to introduce the product to the public than at next week's US Open, taking place at arguably the most iconic coastal golf course in the world, Pebble Beach.
Masun Denison, Global Footwear Director at Adidas Golf, said:
Our company is extremely focused on sustainability and we wanted to incorporate that mission into our sport. This is the first golf shoe we've ever made that incorporates upcycled materials and this is just the beginning. In a sport that's played outdoors and where sustainability is often under the microscope, we feel this is a massive step forward for the game.
In order to do this, they have joined forces with Parley for the Oceans, intercepting plastic waste which they then transform into thread which is used to create the sportswear. In the Tour360, the knitted upper is created from these yarns, and it sits on top of the eight-spike outsole with X-Traxion technology seen in the standard model.
This therefore ensures that golfers are not sacrificing any performance benefits such as traction and stability, safe in the knowledge that they are helping to protect the oceans whilst they play the game that they love.
The Tour360 XT Parley features a sock-like opening for a snug, comfortable fit, and this is complemented by adidas' famous Boost cushioning in the sole.
For the first time, adidas has used forging technology in the construction of the shoe to stiffen the upper material, providing a more stable result which also reduces overall weight.
The shoes will be available at an RRP of £179.95 from 10th June, and come with a one year waterproof warranty. If you're an adidas fan then the Tour360 XT Parley could save your golf, as well as the planet.
