It seems that modern fairways are being designed more and more for lower handicap players and Tour pros. Cobra recognise that aspiring players need a certain type of fairway and thus they've designed the new Baffler XL Fairway Wood.
With their Baffler range of fairway woods, Cobra want to make it "easy to hit it far, easy to hit it straight and, most importantly, easy to enjoy the game."
The Baffler XL is offered in four different lofts and packed with some of Cobra's latest technology to make it the most forgiving and easiest-to-hit Baffler Cobra has created.
Cobra have worked to create a fast and forgiving clubhead designed to get the ball higher, longer and with less spin. To start with they have added a strong, thin steel face that flexes more than before, producing greater ball speed from impact. This face is added to a stainless steel, blue-coloured body inspired by the 40th anniversary of the Baffler product line.
But simply creating speed is not the only goal, it needs to be forgiving as well. That is why Cobra have carefully position Tungsten around the perimeter of the clubhead. In fact, Cobra added 30% more Tungsten than was featured in the clubhead than the previous Baffler T-Rail fairway wood.
20 grams of Tungsten has been added in the bag of the clubhead (visible in the photo above), dragging the centre of gravity further away from the face. The addition of the Tungsten along has helped increase the Baffler XL's MOI by 15%, meaning even more forgiveness.
Furthermore still, Cobra have tweaked the oversized rails on the sole of the club to improve the way the Baffler XL glides through the turf. By limited the amount of drag on the sole of the club and the leading edge, the club can move through impact smoother and more consistently. The rails, along with a pronounced leading edge, help the Baffler XL get the ball in the air easier than ever before.
Ladies, fear not, you can benefit from all the same technology in the Women's Baffler XL fairway wood. Offered in lofts of 18, 20 or 22 degrees, the women's version features a subtle "Purple Pearl" colour on both the clubhead and grip.
