Who? 31 year-old American Harris English.
What? The 2020 Sentry Tournament of Champions, his third PGA Tour victory.
Where? Kapalua Plantation Course, Maui, Hawaii
How? 2021’s edition of the year-opening event from Maui featured a larger field than normal due to last year’s shortened schedule, and English took full advantage by picking up his first victory since 2013. English had shared the overnight lead with Ryan Palmer going into Sunday but it turned out to be Chilean Joaquin Niemann who was his closest competitor, after a stunning final round of 64 gave him the clubhouse lead at 25 under. English narrowly missed a putt for what would have been an incredible eagle on the 72nd green, instead tapping in to force a playoff which he then won on the first extra hole.
Following the victory, English said:
It feels amazing. All the hard work that has gone into this, all the highs and lows of golf that it brings over a career and I feel like I’ve gotten out of my valley and getting back to the tournaments and some of the quality of golf that I know I can play. It feels great to have some validation out there on the golf course.
