Titleist appeared to ramp up their equipment marketing towards the end of last season, with a bold strategy proclaiming a ‘Speed Project’ to mark the release of their newest TS metals.
Since then, two more driver models have been announced along with a full range of iron models, making the equipment giants the most active of all the brands and indicating their dedication to establishing themselves as the best in the business.
So far, these extra efforts have paid off as Titleist has enjoyed consistent success on both the European and PGA Tours, leading equipment counts and adding wins too thanks to their huge bank of staff players.
This success has also translated to the amateur game too, as last weekend’s Amateur Championship winner James Sugrue made last minute changes to his bag and added a Titleist TS3 Driver thanks to a fitting session on the range prior to the event.
Sugrue said:
You have to be straight off the tee here. I got a new driver just on Saturday at the range… Titleist fitted me for a new driver, and it was just way better than my old one. It doesn’t spin the ball half as much and it goes further.
During the event at Portmarnock, Sugrue also used Titleist’s Pro V1 Ball, TS3 Fairway, 718 CB Irons and SM7 Wedges en route to victory. The brand completed a ‘clean sweep’ with more players using Titleist products than any other in every single equipment category, including an incredible 80% of players opting to play a Titleist ball.
Completing a fantastic weekend for Titleist was Pro V1 user Chez Reavie’s victory at the Travelers Championship on the PGA Tour, the ball’s ninth win in the last ten PGA Tour events.
Next month, the ball will be aiming for its fifth Claret Jug in a row at the Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
