In the modern world of Twitter and mobile phone cameras, it is almost impossible to keep a secret anymore. The latest of piece of equipment doing the rounds is the new PING S55 irons.
The new irons are being tested by PING Tour players at this week’s The Barclays and Johnnie Walker Championship for the first time.
The S55 iron will be the successor to the 2010 PING S56 iron, whilst it also appears to share some looks and performance characteristics with the 2012 PING Anser irons.
No prices have been announced, but the S55 irons will be available in November and feature several upgrades for the 2014 season.
It is a tour-style blade iron designed specifically for PING Tour players and low-handicap amateurs, and will be available in 3-PW. The face of the S55 has be made thinner than it’s predecessor, the S56, and the lofts throughout the set are stronger.
Like PING’s S56 (and i20, G25) irons, the S55s will features a CTP (Custom Tuning Port), but the port in the S55s will be larger than before. Lastly, the new irons benefit from a Tungsten toe weight, designed to improve forgiveness, and a stabilizing bar that works to improve distance control.
